I developed an interactive eLearning module for the International Baccalaureate (IB), a global educational foundation serving students worldwide. The Singapore team needed an "Introduction to Procurement" module to support their updated procurement framework launch for both specialists and non-procurement staff.
As the designer responsible for visual communication and learner experience, I built the module in Articulate Storyline and developed the visual concept to ensure an engaging, inclusive, and accessible experience.
Learning Objectives
By completion, IB staff would be able to:
Identify when to use RFQ vs RFP processes according to IB's updated framework
Apply the three-step procurement approval workflow to real scenarios
Demonstrate compliance with IB's vendor selection criteria
1. Planning & Pre-production
Working within an agile methodology, I collaborated with the instructional designer who structured the learning architecture using ADDIE principles, while I focused on translating complex procurement concepts into clear visual narratives. The SME provided technical expertise while I ensured content was accessible and engaging for diverse audiences.
Using Adobe Creative Suite, I developed interface elements, templates, colour treatments, and character design reflecting their global team. The scenario-based approach featured diverse characters for real-world procurement situations.
Brand consistency reduced cognitive load—when learners don't reorient at every step, they stay focused on content. This creates a seamless experience that helps people connect, process, and retain information effectively.
2. Production
I built the module incorporating scenario-based interactivity, quizzes, and visual cues to guide learners through multi-layered content. Visual hierarchy—typography, colour, images and layout—worked together to emphasise key points and simplify complex concepts.
Accessibility was built into every step. I ensured sufficient colour contrast using Vision Australia accessibility tools, sized fonts for readability, and aligned audio narration with on-screen text. I included transcripts, volume controls, and playback options for flexible learning.
I configured Focus Order for screen reader compatibility and applied descriptive alt text to all interactive elements, then conducted detailed quality checks before handover.
3. Review & Delivery
Following internal quality checks, we shared the module for client review and worked through the agreed three collaborative feedback rounds. Final refinements were made, the module was SCORM-packaged with recommended completion settings, and delivered on time.
4. Quality Assurance & Impact
The module successfully supported IB's framework rollout with high engagement rates (up to 89% completion rate within the first 6 weeks) and reduced procurement queries. The visual scenario approach helped staff better understand the new processes, with learners providing positive feedback on content clarity and navigation. The consistent visual design and interactive scenarios enabled both procurement specialists and general staff to confidently apply the updated framework in their daily work.
As part of this case study, I'd love to invite you to preview a short scenario from the module:
